When was the last time you had a day of pampering? Spas may be a distant dream thanks to COVID, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still give yourself the royal treatment you deserve! Here’s a list of the essentials you need for a relaxing at home spa day:
Candles for Ambiance
First things first: you have to set the mood, and candles do just that. Pick a few relaxing scents, such as lavender, eucalyptus, bergamot, or ylang ylang. You can likely find a spa-themed candle with a combination of these scents to create the perfect atmosphere to start relaxing.
Fluffy Robe
Spa robes are soft, fluffy, and perfect for lounging around in. White is the traditional spa colour, but you can also choose light blue, soft pink, or another soothing colour. If you want to really treat yourself, get your robe monogrammed!
Mud Mask
The essence of a great spa experience is the mud mask. Mud masks draw impurities out of your pores, absorb excess oil, and feel great on your skin. Clay masks are also becoming more popular lately, so if you’re not sold on mud masks you can try a clay mask instead. Both are best used with a mask brush to avoid transferring oils from your fingers to your skin.
Under-Eye Patches
Stress can show up on your skin, especially around your eyes. Banish puffiness and dark circles with under eye patches that aim to hydrate and firm up the skin around your eyes. Some even claim to target wrinkles and fine lines, and they work in as little as 20 minutes.
Soothing Body Scrub
Relax your body from head to toe with an exfoliating body scrub that will remove dead skin cells and sooth your muscles at the same time. Salt and sugar scrubs are the most common types you can get at a spa, so look for these in the body scrub you choose. Be sure to pick a scent that appeals to you as well, and look for a scrub that moisturizes while it exfoliates to avoid irritating or drying out your skin.
Luxurious Lotion
After enjoying your body scrub and rinsing off, lock in that wonderful moisture with a luxurious body lotion. Shea butter and avocado oil are excellent ingredients for keeping moisture in your skin, and ceramides are essential for those with eczema and psoriasis. Pay extra attention to dry areas including elbows and knees.
Manicure Kit
When your nails are complete, you feel complete. After you’ve treated your skin, move on to your nails and do a full manicure using a kit complete with files, clippers, and cuticle tools. Start by fully trimming and cleaning your nails, then moisturize and push back your cuticles, and finally apply a couple layers of colour before finishing with some top coat.
From your face, to your body, right down to your nails, the essentials on this list will take care of you head to toe! It’s time to treat yourself.
